Breast Cancer Awareness at The Brick Tavern Inn

Tuesdays in October at  Raised Breast Cancer Awareness and Benefited St. Luke’s Regional Breast Center

Quakertown, PA (11/16/2009) - It’s no wonder why patrons of The Brick Tavern Inn on Old Bethlehem Pike in Quakertown choose to dine there. Good food and conversation have been the tradition there for nearly 200 years. But on Tuesdays in October, patrons also dined at the Inn for another excellent reason – to support breast cancer awareness.

Every Tuesday in October, The Brick Tavern Inn set aside ten percent of the proceeds from all sales during lunch, dinner and tavern sales for St. Luke’s Regional Breast Center in Center Valley. The Inn’s efforts netted $1225 to support the work of the Center.

“Most people know someone with breast cancer; the disease affects millions of women, and also their families,” says Marsha Short, General Manager, The Brick Tavern Inn. “By holding Breast Cancer Tuesdays at The Brick Tavern Inn, we were not only able to raise awareness, but also to help support early detection of the disease. Donating a portion of the proceeds to the St. Luke’s Regional Breast Cancer makes perfect sense, since this facility provides a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for women who require advanced diagnostic breast services.”

Ms. Short presented Dr. Russo and Martha Thompson, Director, St. Luke’s Women’s Imaging Services, with the proceeds.

St. Luke's Regional Breast Center opened in May 2008, becoming the first facility of its kind in the region to provide diagnostic mammograms or higher-level breast imaging exclusively. This state-of-the-art breast care facility is specifically designed for patients who need diagnostic or higher-level mammograms and offers all-new GE digital technology with the most advanced computer-aided software to help in the diagnosis of breast anomalies.

Women requiring diagnostic follow-up care are usually offered an appointment at St. Luke's Regional Breast Center the same day and potential for same-day biopsy if needed. The Center offers these services in a serene, nurturing environment and features private, spacious changing rooms with Internet access.

St. Luke’s Regional Breast Center recently was designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
