Cancer Survivors Day - Record Attendance

More than 1,000 to Attend St. Luke's Cancer Survivors Day Event at the Palmer Park Mall on June 1

Cancer survivors and their families will be attending St. Luke's Cancer Survivors Day at the Palmer Park Mall in Easton Sunday, June 1, 2008, from 11 am to 3 pm. Nearly 1,000 people have registered for this year's event; members of the community are also welcome to attend to celebrate and enjoy the experience.

National Cancer Survivors Day is held annually in hundreds of communities throughout the world on the first Sunday in June. It is a symbolic event to demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality. While the event celebrates survivorship and life, it also celebrates the very people with the strength and courage to face a diagnosis of cancer, and the will and determination to fight back against the disease.

The Mardi-Gras themed event will have a carnival atmosphere and include entertainment by the Perseverance Jazz Band in the mall's center court. Offerings include health screenings and make-your-own first aid kits in St. Luke's Square, an activities area for children featuring mask-making with guest artists from The Banana Factory, face painting, balloon animals, spin art and airbrushed tattoos for children, pet therapy dogs, and healthy cooking with St. Luke's executive chef Ed Petruccelli. Registered cancer survivors also will be treated to complimentary Reiki, massage, reflexology and free makeovers courtesy of Boscov's.

The Faces of Hope exhibit from the Wellness Community will be showcased as well as displays from American Cancer Society, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
