Fatigue, weakness, weight gain, intolerance to cold, constipation, depression, memory loss and abnormal menstrual cycles are symptoms of hypothyroidism. Hyperthyroidism's telltale signs may include heart palpitations, heat intolerance, insomnia, increased bowel movements, weight loss, fatigue, breathlessness, light or absent menstrual periods. Anyone experiencing any of the listed physical abnormalities should consult with a family physician to make arrangements for diagnostic studies, according to Dr. Doll.
