St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital Holds 10th Annual Golf Outing
Quakertown, PA (10-20-09) - St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital recently held their 10th Annual Golf Outing at the Indian Valley Country Club in Telford. Every year the event, which is attended by community leaders, hospital volunteers and local residents, raises funds for needed hospital programs and services. This year funds raised will benefit the Emergency Transport Services which provides safe and efficient transport of critically injured patients.
Verizon Announced $20,000 Grant
As an added element to the day, the Verizon Foundation announced a $20,000 grant that will support the purchase of new equipment for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program to be used in conjunction with the hospital emergency department. St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital, in addition to all St. Luke's Network Hospitals, introduced a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program in 2007. SANE is a nationally accepted program which was developed to address the inadequacies in the traditional model for sexual assault medical evidentiary exams.
Grant Funds New Equipment Purchases
The funding from the Verizon Foundation will support new equipment purchases that will enhance the existing programs at both St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital and St. Luke's Hospital - Bethlehem Campus. Funds dedicated toward St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital will be used to purchase a portable ultrasound system that will perform ultrasound at the patient's bedside and eliminate concerns of re-traumatizing the patient by transporting them to another location. Bedside ultrasound allows the doctor the ability to immediately detect internal bleeding or in the case of a pregnant woman, to determine the status of the fetus.
“The addition of a portable ultrasound system furthers our commitment to preserve the dignity and esteem of our patients following incidences of sexual, domestic and criminal assault,” said Ed Nawrocki, president, St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital. He continued, “We are especially pleased that the Verizon Foundation has once again partnered with us on this important initiative of treating and healing victims of assault.”
“Verizon is committed to working with non-profit organizations in the community toward the education and prevention of domestic violence”, said Daniel J. Reavy, Director of External Affairs, Verizon Pennsylvania. “We are pleased to partner with St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital and through the use of health care technology, to help victims of abuse. We're proud to support a program that has a proven track record of helping those in need receive appropriate medical care.”
