St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital Supports Quakertown Community's Summer Lunch Program

Quakertown, PA (7-9-2009) - Yesterday, St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital employees delivered more than 300 pounds and $600 worth of food to the Quakertown Food Pantry. The food will go toward the Quakertown Summer Lunch Program which was developed to respond to the needs of approximately 70 elementary children per day (38 percent) who receive free or price reduced lunches during the school year in the Quakertown Community School District. The Quakertown Food Pantry and United Way contacted St. Luke's to seek donations of non- perishable/refrigerated items that would provide these children with nutritious meals and snacks throughout the summer.

Nancy Baker, General Manager of the St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital Nutrition Department, and Cheri Kline, Director of Quality and Education, made the delivery. Nancy and Cheri co-chair the St. Luke's Employee Service Excellence Committee, a group of employees who work diligently to plan events which benefit St. Luke's staff members and Upper Bucks community members. The Committee continues to rally hospital employees, physicians and volunteers to work as a team to respond to this need. Nancy posted a list of bulk items that the hospital's nutrition department can order to make it easy for departments to collect money and donate.

More than ten departments have donated so far. Nancy shared with the hospital community, “WOW! We just received $40 from X-Ray. Thank you so much! How wonderful is this? Keep up the great job and keep donating! Thanks for opening up your hearts for the children of Quakertown.”

St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital employees can donate money through August 14, 2009. To donate items directly to the Quakertown Food Pantry, please call 215-536-0240.
