New Blakeslee Sports & Rehab Center
Providing physical therapy and wellness services
Coaldale, PA (9/18/2009) – Public officials and representatives from St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital celebrated the grand opening of St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation in Blakeslee yesterday. The new center will provide patients with access to comprehensive physical therapy and wellness programs.
William Crossin, President, St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital welcomed everyone to the grand opening of the center. He was pleased to participate in the St. Luke’s mission of becoming the area’s leader in health care.
“St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation opened our first set of doors more than ten years ago in Coaldale to provide patients with physical therapy and wellness care. The opening of our newest location, here in Blakeslee, reinforces the strategic plan to provide services outside of the hospital,” Crossin said. “We now have eight physical therapy and wellness centers, along with many physician offices, laboratory services and Health Centers located throughout the communities. I am thrilled that Blakeslee is our newest home.”

Ralph Richards, Director, St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation, said, “St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation started with a need to help patients recover from a hospital stay or an injury and get back to a normal lifestyle. Physical therapy and wellness are critical steps in healing and improving patients’ overall well-being.”
St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation sites are currently located in Coaldale, Jim Thorpe, Mahoning Valley, Mahanoy City, Nesquehoning, Weatherly and West Penn.
Richards added, “Throughout the history of our department, we have helped thousands to people get back to doing the things they love and on the path to enjoying the things they thought were unreachable. We’re excited, and proud, to be celebrating the opening of our center in Monroe County which will enable us to bring our highest level of physical therapy and wellness care to the residents of the Blakeslee area.”
The newest center will be managed by Scott Marek, DPT, Clinic Coordinator, St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation – Blakeslee. Marek shared, “At St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation we provide care to people of all ages, whether you’re an elite athlete or a weekend warrior, whether you’re recovering from injury, illness or surgery. Our goal is your goal and that is to bring you to your best health and get you back to doing the activities you love … whether it is playing with your grandkids, dancing, working on a home improvement project or playing sports.” He added, “We give our personal attention to every patient, every time, and work with you to establish short-term and long-term goals.”
St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation treats a variety of conditions through physical therapy, including strains and sprains, joint replacements, tendonitis, bursitis, chronic fatigue, inner ear balance disorder and work-related and accident injuries. The wellness program helps people to improve their overall health.
“Through our wellness program, we’ll help you maintain your highest level of fitness so you can manage your weight, remain injury free and learn good nutritional habits … all for better long-term health,” Marek explained. “For us, the greatest feeling is helping someone achieve his or her goals and improve quality of life.”
St. Luke’s Sports & Rehabilitation – Blakeslee is located inside the Blakeslee Medical Professional Complex, approximately 1/8 mile east of Route 115 at Route 940 and Maple Road. The center is currently open for Physical Therapy on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7am - 5:30pm and Tuesday and Friday from 7am - 12pm; Wellness Program hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7am - 5:30pm and Friday from 7am - 12pm. Wellness walk-ins are welcome. Physical Therapy appointments require a script.
