Raising Awareness of Ways to Prevent Heart Disease

St. Luke’s is committed to raising awareness of the importance of and ways to prevent heart disease. From screenings to a formal heart failure program, the doctors, nurses and staff are reaching out into the community to make sure that people are aware of their risks and know the things they can do to help themselves.

Community Education

St. Luke’s Regional Heart Center promotes the prevention of heart disease in the community. Our nurses and physicians regularly conduct:

  • Blood pressure checks
  • Cholesterol screenings
  • Stroke screenings
  • Checks to evaluate a person’s likelihood of developing heart disease

In addition, our clinicians regularly present educational talks in the community on heart-disease related topics.

Heart Failure Program at St. Luke’s

Heart failure is the leading cause of hospitalization for people over the age of sixty-five. St. Luke’s Heart Failure Program offers the best medical and surgical treatments to extend its patients’ length and quality of life.

The heart failure program is directed by a team of:

  • Cardiologists
  • Surgeons
  • Internal medicine physicians
  • Emergency room physicians
  • Family practice physicians

St. Luke’s heart failure care coordinators understand heart failure and heart failure treatment.  The heart failure care coordinators work with your physician to assure all heart failure patients receive the best therapies and care. To reduce the need for hospital stays and help patients live longer lives, team members counsel and educate patients and their loved ones about heart failure. St. Luke’s Heart Failure Program also works with a variety of outpatient services to meet each patient’s needs after their hospital stay.
