In addition to our devoted thoracic surgeons, the division of thoracic surgery has a team of mid-level practitioners and ancillary staff that help guide our patients from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.
Mid-Level Practitioners
Donna Bobo, MSN, CRNP
Donna Bobo, MSN, CRNP, is our thoracic surgery nurse practitioner. Donna has 20 years of critical care nursing experience providing care for cardiothoracic surgical patients. She is a graduate of the St. Luke’s Hospital nursing program and received her MSN from DeSales University. She completed the nurse practitioner program at DeSales University in 2008. In addition to her role as a nurse practitioner, she continues as the Thoracic Oncology Nurse Navigator for the Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program, a position she has maintained since 2005. Donna serves as a resource for the patient and family throughout the continuum of care in our Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program and functions as a consistent contact through diagnosis and treatment. She provides individualized information and support and guides our patients through the multidisciplinary approach to care.
Beth Katynski, PA-C
Beth Katynski, PA-C, is our most senior mid-level practitioner. She completed her undergraduate training at Pennsylvania State University and King’s College and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant in 1991. Beth has been involved in cardiothoracic surgery her entire career but is also experienced in electrophysiology and various surgical subspecialties, including plastic surgery, urology, neurosurgery and general surgery. She has been employed as a physician assistant in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Arizona and contributes a diverse perspective to the practice. She joined our practice in January 2007 but has been part of the St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network since 1994. She plays an integral role in our patients’ preoperative, perioperative and postoperative care.
Kaitlin Maloney, PA-C
Kaitlin Maloney, PA-C, is the latest addition to our growing thoracic surgical team. Kaitlin completed her physician assistant training and received a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Philadelphia University in 2003. She brings with her 5 years of surgical experience and patient care excellence. In addition to thoracic surgery, she possesses an extensive knowledge base in orthopedic surgery and emergency medicine. Kaitlin provides patient care for our patients throughout the preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative periods.
Ancillary Staff
Lori Horvath, Thoracic Surgery Clinical Care Coordinator
Lori Horvath has been part of our practice for the past 2 years. As a thoracic surgery clinical care coordinator she is responsible for precertifying procedures and organizing office appointments, referrals, imaging studies and surgical procedures. She helps guide patients through our Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program by coordinating appointments with our multidisciplinary team and attending to the special needs of the patients and families.
Lori Shelly, Thoracic Surgery Clinical Care Coordinator
Lori Shelly has been with our practice since it was established in 2003. She received her Medical Assistant degree in 1985 and been part of the St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network since that time. She has spent her entire career in cardiology and cardiothoracic surgical practices. She is responsible for precertifying procedures and scheduling office appointments, referrals, imaging studies and surgical procedures. Lori played and integral role in establishing our Comprehensive Lung Cancer Program and continues to organize the weekly cases. She coordinates appointments with our multidisciplinary team for consultations, physician visits, procedures and other needs.
Jasmin Velez, Medical Office Assistant
Jasmin Velez joined our practice over a year ago as our medical office assistant. In addition to her various roles, she is primarily responsible for all the billing and insurance reimbursement. From medical insurance to private pay to disability claims, she serves as a vital resource for all our patients’ concerns and questions.
