Clinical Trials at The Vascular Center
Ongoing participation in clinical trials, which are closely controlled research studies, allows the vascular specialists at The Vascular Center to test promising new treatments and therapies. The Vascular Center currently participates in several clinical trials including:
SAPPHIRE Trial
| Stenting and Angioplasty with Protection in Patients at High Risk for Endarterectomy for the prevention of strokes in high-risk surgical patients |
The SAPPHIRE Study was the “landmark trial” demonstrating that carotid artery stenting is an effective alternative treatment to open carotid endarterectomy in select patients with cervical carotid occlusive disease. The trial has expanded to include select groups of symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
PRICELESS Trial
| Pressure and Imaging using the CardioMEMS EndoSure Sensor for Long-term follow-up after EVAR with Standard Surveillance |
This multi-center national trial is investigating the use of a pressure monitor placed in the aneurysm sac at the time of EVAR (endovascular aneurysm repair). This study evaluates new technology to monitor the aneurysm and its repair. Follow-up is performed with a radio frequency transmitter in The Vascular Center clinic and may reduce the need for X-rays. The Vascular Center is currently the only center in Eastern Pennsylvania participating in the trial.
