Safety Education and Injury Prevention

Safety Education and Injury Prevention

In addition to treating injuries, St. Luke’s Adult Level 1 Trauma Center also has a responsibility to educate the community about preventing injuries. To fulfill this commitment, St. Luke’s Adult Level 1 Trauma Center employs a full-time education specialist who coordinates community and patient education and injury prevention programs. All programs are free and age-appropriate for children, adolescents, adults or older adults.

In addition, St. Luke's Adult Level 1 Trauma Center is also active in the Medical Professionals as Advocates Program (MPAP), which is a public health research study on firearm violence in the Lehigh Valley.

Programs are presented at:

  • Health fairs
  • Senior centers
  • Schools
  • Community organizations
  • Civic centers
  • HealthStar (St. Luke's mobile health unit)

Topics include:

  • Bike/helmet safety
  • Seatbelt safety
  • Vacation safety
  • Play safety
  • Firearm safety
  • Water safety
  • Elder abuse
  • Safe driving
  • Anti-drug and alcohol
  • Prom/graduation night safety

If your group is interested in scheduling a safety education/injury prevention program on one of the topics listed above (or on one of your own topics), please call St. Luke’s Adult Level 1 Trauma Center’s education specialist at 610-954-2214.
