Nurse-Family Partnership
Second Largest Site
St. Luke's is privileged to
be the second largest
Nurse-Family Partnership
site in the United States.
Nurses visit first-time mothers for two and a half years, beginning in early pregnancy until babies are two years old. The nurses teach the new families how to prepare healthy meals and help mothers to not smoke or use drugs or alcohol. After the baby is born, the nurse teaches the new mom about taking care of the baby's body and emotions.
The mothers learn how to avoid unplanned pregnancies and delay the birth of second children. The NFP was initiated in 2001 with a four-year prevention grant from the PA Governor's Partnership for Children. The program continues to be supported by corporate and individual donations and helps families with low incomes.
