Extensive Didactic Schedule
The faculty of the Emergency Medicine Residency of the St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network takes pride in our extensive didactic schedule that includes the following:
- Grand Rounds - a weekly series of lectures by our faculty and special guests designed to broaden basic knowledge and prepare for board certification.
- Morbidity and Mortality Conference - a monthly one-hour conference in which critical cases are reviewed to provide lessons in preventing avoidable errors in emergency medicine.
- Resident Case Presentations - a weekly opportunity for residents to present interesting cases and discuss the diagnosis and management of these conditions.
- Rosen/Tintinalli Club - a biweekly one-hour quiz and review of assigned reading topics in the major emergency medicine textbooks. This program is based on a curriculum that serves as a major adjunct for board certification preparation.
- Board Review - regularly presented by the program director, these conferences cover the entire emergency medicine curriculum.
- EM Jeopardy - a thrill-packed academic contest based on the popular game show.
- Journal Club - meeting in the homes of various faculty members, this monthly journal club offers an opportunity for residents and faculty to review and discuss the latest emergency medicine advances.
- General Competency Symposiums - a monthly lecture series for all the hospital's residents that address issues of importance to all specialties, including medical ethics, professionalism, communication skills and decision-making skills.
- Small Group Breakout Sessions - residents divide into small groups to discuss practical management issues relating to emergency medicine cases with an attending physician. Groups explore and discuss diagnostic and treatment options.
Our residents are encouraged to attend the many interdisciplinary conferences offered at St. Luke's through the various residency programs and departments.
