John C. Prestosh, DO, FACOEP,

Osteopathic Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director

“The main thrust of our program is to ensure a quality education in Emergency Medicine with exposure to every aspect of our specialty. The goal is to prepare every resident to be proficient in our field of medicine and capable of expertly treating all emergent situations.”

Approved Four-Year Emergency Medicine Training

St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network is proud to support the American Osteopathic Association's approved four-year program in Emergency Medicine. We also have an EM-tracked year at the Allentown Campus which is linked to the EM program. Our program was the initial EM program in the Lehigh Valley and continues to provide a strong academic curriculum at a tertiary medical center. The program is fully accredited, as are all the residency programs in the Network. St. Luke's also offers an allopathic EM residency and both programs share in the educational process.

The program's base facility is at the Bethlehem Campus. Our residents also train at the Allentown Campus, as well as at a major pediatric facility in Philadelphia. The Bethlehem Campus also is the home for a Level 1 Trauma Center.

St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network has residency programs in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Family Practice, Podiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Network has just been approved for an Orthopedic Residency. The institution also has fellowships in Sports Medicine and Critical Care/Trauma.

All EM residents have the ability to rotate through all major subspecialty areas such as trauma, critical care, and EMS . The core curriculum emphasizes didactic sessions and places a keen interest in being current with the latest EM literature and clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on research throughout the entire residency and the program has presented multiple posters and presentations at various state and national meetings. Special emphasis is also made to prepare our residents for their boards upon completion of their residency. We are proud of our high success rate of our graduating residents passing their boards (all levels).
