Major Research Project is Goal
The residents obtain valuable research experience and are guided by the faculty from the initial idea to the publishable stage. Residents will be responsible for a major research project during their residency years. It is our goal that this project be published in a major peer review journal. In addition, we encourage all our residents to be involved in various smaller research projects throughout their residency. Residents are assisted in their research by the program director, the director of emergency medicine research and appointee faculty advisors, as well as by the Research Institute of St. Luke's. Our facility is fortunate to have an on-site, full-time research/statistician, who is closely involved with every research project.
Financial and staff support is available for research projects. The residency program encourages and supports the presentation of abstracts, papers, and exhibits at regional, state, and national scientific meetings. Most of our residents have had their projects accepted for either regional or national presentations.
Ultrasound is also liberally utilized in our department and all residents fulfill criteria for “certification” in emergency ultrasound. Our program is fortunate to have a leader in the field of emergency ultrasound on the active ED staff. Residents will be responsible for a major research project during their residency years.
