“Many applicants are attracted to our program because of the breadth of clinical experiences, the committed, dedicated faculty and the national reputation St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network enjoys in the areas of cardiology and intensive care medicine. They are equally impressed by the competitive fellowships that our graduates enter. Frequently, our graduates return after fellowship training and join the teaching staff. To me, this is the greatest endorsement of the training program and quality of patient care provided at St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network.”

Training to Practice in a Primary Care Setting or to Enter Subspecialty Training
The goal of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Luke’s Hospital & Health Network is to train our residents to develop the skills competencies necessary to practice in a primary care setting, to practice as a hospitalist or to enter subspecialty training with confidence.
This goal is accomplished through:
- Excellent one-on-one mentoring by a dedicated cadre of approximately 100 volunteer faculty and eight full-time faculty
- Flexible tailoring of rotations to best suit our residents' long term career goals
- Caring for a diverse socioeconomic population with a wide spectrum of disease processes
- By providing instruction using interactive conferences, web-based learning and simulation
Our Internal Medicine Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The program excels amid state-of-the-art facilities, strong administrative support and a dedicated faculty.
We are proud of our graduates and their accomplishments. Our three-year pass rate on the internal medicine certifying examination is 100 percent. The majority of our residents seeking fellowships have entered into competitive programs. Recently these graduates have continued their training at such institutions as Brown University, Massachusetts General, the University of Maryland, Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, University of Pennsylvania and Wake Forest University. Some of our current teaching faculty are graduates of our program who returned to practice at St. Luke’s after completing their fellowships.
The hospital also actively recruits graduates from our program to join our well established hospitalist practice. For those interested in primary care, the hospital recruitment department assist residents in locating potential practice opportunities within the extensive St. Luke's Hospital & Health Network sites.
We welcome you to apply to the St. Luke’s Internal Medicine Residency Program. We believe you will find our program provides a first-rate educational experience in a supportive training environment.

Application Process and Contact Information
- All applicants from LCME-approved medical schools and international medical graduates must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) (aamc.org/audienceeras.htm). The deadline for application is December 15. We sponsor the J-1 visa and the expedited H-1 visa sponsorship.
- ERAS automatically forwards only five documents from an application: the common application form, the Dean’s Letter, a transcript, an ECFMG status report and your photo.
- Other documents, which we require, and which MUST BE SPECIFICALLY ASSIGNED BY YOU TO BE TRANSMITTED TO US THROUGH ERAS, include three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, an USMLE transcript and a Curriculum Vita.
- Once a completed application is received and reviewed, candidates chosen for interviews will be contacted via e-mail. Interviews begin in November.
- Up to eight categorical internal medicine positions are offered through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Our NRMP program number is 1605140C0.
