Caring for a Diverse Athletic Population
As a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow, you will spend time caring for a diverse athletic population of all ages and athletic ability. You will have the opportunity to develop your expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide variety of sports and exercise-related medical conditions. The sports medicine curriculum includes fitness assessment, exercise prescription, injury evaluation and treatment, acute management of life-threatening conditions, supervision of rehabilitation, training room experience at the high school and college level, injury prevention and sideline experience involving many sporting and recreational venues.
The sports fellows are actively involved in patient care within both sports medicine and primary care settings. They are involved in teaching sports medicine to residents, medical students and the general public. The fellows are responsible for several didactic presentations as part of the sports medicine curriculum. Diverse research opportunities are available, and presentation and/or publication of a research endeavor will be an expectation of the fellowship. The fellowship education is provided by Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine and other St. Luke’s Hospital faculty and staff, sports physical therapists, certified athletic trainers and sports fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons, all with a unique sports medicine interest and commitment to education.
