Preparing for Practice in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care Setting - Curriculum
The Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship Program prepares the physician assistant or nurse practitioner for practice in the trauma and surgical critical care setting.
Core Clinical Rotations
In addition to the didactic lectures, PA/NP residents also will have the opportunity to become more proficient in the care of the trauma and critical care patient. The resident will spend five months on the trauma service and five months in the surgical critical care unit.
Elective Rotations
The elective components will allow the PA/NP resident to obtain more experience in the specialty areas frequently consulted on trauma and critical care patients.
The PA/NP Resident will have two, one-month electives. They will be able to choose from the following:
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopedics
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Infectious Disease
- Emergency Medicine
- General Surgery
- Interventional Radiology
- Trauma
- Surgical Critical Care
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
PA/NP Residents will be required to take a pre- and post-residency examination. They also are required to do an oral case presentation for each elective.
Call Frequency
Fellows average one night of in-house call per week, and one weekend 24-hour call per month.
