William R. Burfeind, Jr., MD, Thoracic Surgeon
- Native of the Lehigh Valley and a graduate of Emmaus High School
- Spearheads the Lung Cancer Program and Thoracic Surgery at St. Luke's Health Network since 2007
- Received BA from Middlebury College and his MD from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons
- Completed general surgery and thoracic surgery training at Duke University Medical Center
- Upon completion of his training, he stayed on staff at Duke as an Assistant Professor of Surgery from 2004 through 2007
- Board certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery
- Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Chest Physicians, as well as a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Association of Academic Surgeons and the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association
- Clinical interests include the treatment of both lung and esophageal cancers and other benign and malignant chest tumors
- Research interests surround the design and conduct of large clinical trials, minimally invasive therapies for lung cancer, lung cancer staging and Quality of Life after lung cancer treatment
