Junior Volunteers (Summer) Opportunites at St. Luke’s Hospital – Bethlehem Campus

The following list represents opportunities during the summer for junior volunteers at St. Luke's Hospital - Bethlehem Campus. Students are scheduled in the same area, same day, same time, every week.

Ambulatory Surgical Center – Discharge patients, make tea and toast for patients, restock supplies and put together chart/OR packets. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm, 4 to 7 pm.

Filing/clerical work – File various items, such as paperwork and charts, data entry, put together charts, photocopying, etc. Must pay close attention to detail. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Float – Reports to the Volunteer office to be placed where the greatest need is. Areas may consist of the Pharmacy, Ambulatory Surgical Center, Volunteer Escort Service, or for clerical support (filing). Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Gift Cart Attendant – Visits patient rooms with a cart stocked with gift shop items for their convenience. Requires two people to push the cart and sell items. Must have customer service skills. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm, 4 to 7 pm.

Gift Shop Assistant – Greets customers and completes sales, helps with daily upkeep of the shop. Must have customer service skills. Mon. – Fri., 9 am to 1 pm, 1 to 4:30 pm, 4:30 to 7:30 pm, Sat. and Sun., 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, 2:30 to 5:30 pm.

Mailroom Assistant – Sorts, alphabetizes and assists with incoming and outgoing mail. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Nurse Assistant – Assists staff in all aspects of non-clinical patient care. This may include, restocking supplies, providing water, and socialization activities with patients. Requires customer service skills and physical stamina.  Three hour Patient Contact Course is required. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Patient Access Center – Transport medical records to various departments, use the pneumatic tube system, and file. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm, 4 to 7 pm.

Perinatal Center – Filing, collating, putting together charts. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Pharmacy Assistant – Packages and tubes stat patient medications to nursing stations. Empties pneumatic tube carriers, distributes physician orders to pharmacists. Checks inventory for out-dated items. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm, 4 to 7 pm, Sat. and Sun., 9 am to 1 pm, 1 to 4 pm.

Pre-Admission Testing – Aids staff in greeting patients arriving for Pre-admission testing. Assists in various clerical duties and running errands.  Requires good communication skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 3 pm.

Pre-operative Holding Area – Checks patient packets for completeness.  Assists personnel with patient transport, delivers specimens, restocks materials and distributes memoranda and O.R. schedules. Must be 16. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Print Shop – Distribute printed materials throughout the hospital, weighing approximately 25-30 pounds. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm.

Volunteer Escort – Discharges and transports low-risk patients by wheelchair.  Delivers mail, flowers, medical reports, guides patients and visitors, and runs errands.  Serves as back-up support for various departments. Helps with workroom projects. Mon. – Fri., 8 am to 12 pm, 12 to 4 pm.

Women’s Health Clinic Assistant – Assists with clerical tasks and restocks items in rooms. Mon. or Wed. 8 to 12, 12 to 4, Tues. or Thurs. 8 to 12, 12 to 4, 4 to 7, Fri., 8am to 12pm.
